Frank Ocean has been one of the most impressive artists to surface in a long time. Channel Orange was an instant hit and it’s no surprise that people got frustrated for how long it took for the next album to drop. It was well worth the wait, of course, and one of the things that makes him so special. He knows what he excels at and what he has to do to make something that is special to him.
I enjoyed this entire profile on Ocean by Joe Caramanica at the New York Times, but it was the last part that really spoke to me.
Now he’s finished laughing, back in control. “This has always been my life and no one else’s,” he said, “and that’s how it’s always been since the day I came in it.”
